Upon his arrival to the UFC, James Toney felt that since he was a
boxing champion, he should have got Brock Lesnar as his first opponent
inside the Octagon, but that obviously did not happen as the
organization had other plans for the 41 year old ex champ.
While speaking with
Toney who wanted the UFC heavyweight champion did not get his wish as
the UFC wanted to give ‘Lights Out’ Kimbo Slice before signing on to
face Randy Couture.
“The person I wanted to fight right off the bat was
Brock Lesnar. He’s a champion, I’m a champion and I wanted to do it.
But they said I couldn’t do that. Then they said, ‘How about Kimbo?’
But I said, ‘That’s too easy. That’s like kicking a little kid’s butt.’
But then Randy started saying he wanted to fight me, so I said, ‘OK,
you’re the first one getting it.’”

It has never been made for a fighter with no professional MMA
experience come and get a world title fight no matter what other sport
he or she came from, but Toney made it clear to UFC President Dana
White what his plans are for his Octagon career.
“I told Dana my goal is to hold the heavyweight
championship of the UFC and in boxing at the same time,” Toney said.
“So as long as it takes me to get Brock Lesnar, that’s how long it’ll
be. If Lesnar gets by Cain Velasquez, I’ll fight Lesnar in February or
March. … Lesnar ran away from Shane Carwin like a girl, but then Carwin
ran out of gas and quit. But I’ll fight any of them, any time anywhere.
That’s my motto.”

Now we all know that Toney has been running his mouth ever since he
started to make his pitch to fight in the UFC, he is still out to prove
that he is the superior fighter to a Mixed Martial Artist since he is a
boxer, but has also been doing the proper training to become the best
fighter he can be all around, so we will have to see what Toney can do
against Randy Couture.
